MEP IR UPGRADE

Overview

The Multi Engine Piston Instrument Rating is an important part of your pilot training. It is at the end of the airline course hence it is essential for your airline aims – this rating is usually a mandatory item at airlines for application to a pilot job. The Multi Engine Instrument Rating Course extends your MEP CR rating to fly multi-engine aircraft in IMC conditions, and upgrades your SEP-IR rating to multi engine aircraft.

During the training you will learn to fly multi engine aircraft in Instrument Conditions. This includes holding patterns, precision and non-precision approaches in normal and in single-engine conditions as well.

Course description

The course consists of 5 hours flight training from which 3 hours can be completed in a flight simulator training device, meaning there are two versions: you can fly all the 5 hours on aircraft or you can split the course and fly 3 hours on a simulator and the remaining 2 hours on aircraft. Upon completing the course, you will need to pass a 2 hours long practical exam flight. Like the multi engine class rating, completing this course takes an average 1-2 weeks – in optimum weather conditions.

After completing the Multi Engine IR upgrade training you can fly a multi engine airplane also in IFR conditions.

Prerequisites

  • ICAO Aviation English level 4 or higher or English Proficiency endorsement in the license

  • Valid EASA medical class 2 with “IR Checked” or higher

  • 70 hours PIC time of which 50 VFR CC time

  • NVFR if the IR privileges will be used at night

  • Valid EASA PPL license or higher with valid SEP-IR and MEP-CR rating
